Changes to Highway 290 are Coming

You may not yet be aware of it, but expansion plans are in their final planning phases for the Highway 290 corridor from Loop 610 out to Cypress.  Expansion plans will also include the Old Hempstead Highway conversion into a toll road much like the recent Westpark Toll Road.  Actual construction is about 2 years away according to the Texas Department of Transportation, but in order to relieve congestion as quickly as possible there are several Transportation System Management Projects already underway.  Environmental Impact Studies were completed and review by the public came to an end in May 2010. Tentative funding of $420 Million has been tagged for the 290 project.  There is much more information about the 290 improvement project and its various stages at the Texas Department of Transportation website set up for the project.
